One of the things which I suddenly found myself thrust into over the Christmas period was the chance of selling my Department 89 franchise to Netflix.
Now, to be clear, nothing has been agreed yet and Netflix hasn’t even received my “treatment” yet (my 9 pager selling the idea to them). In fact I only finished the treatment this evening after a good friend helped me get it to the state where it CAN go to Netflix. It’s that same friend who can connect me to someone at Netflix Germany who would be able to take a look at it and decide if it’s worthy of being considered for a TV series.
Writing the books is one thing but holding a TV series treatment in your hands is seriously exciting and intoxicating. The buzz is incredible. Suddenly you’re thinking of actors you’d like to have in your hypothetical TV show. Awards and acclaim start flashing across your eyes, and more importantly than anything else, it would be vindication and validation against all those who told me that I would never make any money from independently writing books.
Of course I will keep you updated of developments. It goes without saying that if I get a Netflix contract, you’ll hear me screaming for joy – wherever you are in the world.
Who would you like to see play the various characters in a Netflix TV show? Who do you visualise as Decker? My personal favourite at the moment is Anne Menden of “Gute Zeiten, Schlechte Zeiten” fame.
